Support Spectrum Literary Journal and help us raise $2,500!

We are UCSB undergraduates, the editors and team members of the student-run Spectrum Literary Journal. We are working towards publishing the 67th annual issue of the journal while raising funds for current expenses as well as for the future of the journal. 

Since 1957 UCSB undergraduates have staffed and published Spectrum, a national publication and the longest-running literary journal in the University of California system. Over the years, Spectrum has published stories and poems as well as the work of luminaries and emerging authors. We receive hundreds of submissions every year from writers all over the US and worldwide. In recent years, we have focused on publishing writing that takes risks while still achieving literary excellence. 

Spectrum is all about experiential learning! Over the course of a publication cycle, Spectrum takes students through the entire publication process of a literary journal—from an introductory course on the inner workings of the publishing space, to a course designed for students to evaluate submissions, and a final course focused on designing a complete magazine. We gain valuable experience which we can apply to our future endeavors after graduation.

Every dollar raised will be directed towards essential expenses associated with the journal whether that be printing and publication, events related to promoting the journal, student activities related to professional publishing, and other expenses. 

In an era where literary journal giants have moved to digital only operations, we are proud to have created print issues of our journal annually for 67 years. Perhaps more importantly, our journal gives the writers and editors of tomorrow hands-on experience in the art of publishing words in print.
