Santa Cruz Island Reserve: Student Support

For nearly 50 years, UC Santa Barbara’s Santa Cruz Island Reserve has facilitated research and education, enabling students to experience the sciences firsthand in a unique, inspiring environment.

The Santa Cruz Island Reserve provides an immersive, hands-on, transdisciplinary educational platform to hundreds of students each year, creating opportunities for engaging experiences in fields ranging from earth sciences to the arts to cultural history. Field visits to Santa Cruz Island foster a deep connection to nature and instill a sense of environmental stewardship that is often challenging to achieve within a traditional classroom setting.

Now that the Santa Cruz Island Reserve can welcome students in person again, the Reserve team is excited to facilitate these immersive learning opportunities for students and instructors. We invite you to donate to our campaign, which will enrich student experiences by funding their accommodations at the Reserve, boat fare, and ground transportation around the island.

When students have the opportunity to visit and engage in field sciences at the Reserve, it opens their eyes to new possibilities and often changes the trajectory of their futures. We are committed to enhancing diversity, and your support will enable us to better serve students as they learn principles of sustainability, ecology, and field research at this living laboratory.

Please consider giving to our GauchoBoost campaign that will support immersive outdoor experiences and engaging research opportunities for undergraduate and high school students at the Santa Cruz Island Reserve.
