Gaucho Lacrosse Family,
We hope everyone is healthy and doing well. As I'm sure you are all aware, the 2020 lacrosse season was cut short due to COVID-19. The players and coaches were extremely disappointed with the abrupt ending to the season, and we are looking forward to the chance to be together on the field again.
The cancellation has put the team in a difficult financial situation due to several factors:
As a result, we are in jeopardy of going into the red for the first time that I can remember. We are currently around $10,000 behind where we would normally be during a typical year. The Gaucho Lacrosse Alumni Association led a great fundraising push by the alumni in the fall, and our hope had been to use that money for future projects to help the program. We've been so fortunate to operate this program in a way that gives student-athletes the best experience possible – and that has all been thanks to our alumni, players, and parents. It would be tough to see all of the hard work that has gone into creating financial stability get wiped out by this situation.
For this year's seniors, the season ended without the chance to give them the proper Senior Day celebration and to honor the dedication they have shown to the team. Dylan Dodge, Thomas Matthew, Matt Mayer, and Jake Newman were outstanding representatives of the program and great leaders. As frustrating as this situation has been, I am most disappointed for these seniors who didn't get the send-off and closure that they deserved.
We realize that this is a difficult and challenging time for everyone, and that not everyone will be able to donate at this time. We appreciate any amount that you are able to give to help the lacrosse program out in this unique circumstance.
Thank you all for the support and Go Gauchos!
Sincerely,
Mike Allan, Head Coach
Nick Schooler, Alumni Association Board President
