Support COVID-19 Testing at UC Santa Barbara - #UCSBTogether

To welcome students back to campus, UC Santa Barbara will need to rely on comprehensive testing, contact tracing, and quarantine protocols. Our researchers, faculty and administrators have been working tirelessly to develop these plans.  

A collective UC Santa Barbara research team has developed a campus-based test for COVID-19 that will allow our campus to test our students and campus citizens. This test is less expensive than the standard and yields fast, highly accurate results. The highly specific and sensitive CRISPR-based method to detect SARS-CoV-2 is easily scaled up and deployed in non-specialized centers and will facilitate widespread testing for SARS-CoV-2 in our communities. Such a test will facilitate UC Santa Barbara resume in-person instruction.

Your support will help continued research and implementation, including:

• Regular testing of our campus population to mitigate seeding;

• Sample acquisition and surveillance management;

• Participant information recordkeeping;

• Funding resources needed for testing such as lab facilities, testing equipment, process and protocol development;

• Creating a setting wherein all members of the UC Santa Barbara community can be tested.
