Chicana/o/x Studies 50th Anniversary

Thank you for joining us to commemorate the 50th anniversary of El Plan de Santa Bárbara, the catalyst for Chicano Studies departments across California. Over the past fifty years, students have become advocates for their communities through the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at UC Santa Barbara. In 2003, UC Santa Barbara offered the first doctorate in Chicana and Chicano Studies in the nation. We continue to define the field with innovative faculty and alumni leading social justice causes through their work in education, law, public policy, and non-profits.

There is more work to be done.  We are specifically seeking to fund a community-engaged research mentoring initiative in the Department.  Undergraduate and Graduate students would be funded to conduct research with local communities in an effort to find solutions to some of the most pressing social issues of our time.  To learn more about supporting the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at UC Santa Barbara, click the Give Now button below.
