Donald H. Aue Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Fund

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program at the College of Creative Studies (CCS) was created in 1985! This program, open to students in all 8 majors at CCS, is core to the College’s student experiential learning, and has led to hundreds of promising CCS student scholars who go on to be leaders in their fields of study and communities. 

SURF is the brainchild of UCSB Chemistry Professor Emeritus Donald H. Aue who continues to strongly believe that undergraduate student researchers have the ability to make meaningful and significant contributions in their fields of study and to the greater body of world research knowledge. Professor Aue retired from UCSB in January 2021 after several decades of dedication to teaching and student learning. For the positive impact he will continue to have on future student scholars through SURF, CCS is honoring Professor Aue by naming a Aue Fellow each summer, starting in summer 2022. 

We are grateful for receiving an amazing $40,000 gift to help create and endow the Donald H. Aue Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Fund. The fund will provide summer fellowship support to qualified CCS students in Mathematics and Science. This coming year, our goal is to grow the fund to $75,000 by extending our appeal to our wider CCS Community. Our immediate goal is to raise an additional $10,000 to establish the Fund.
